If you are hoping to get rid of the ferrety smell by bathing your ferrets...think again! Bathing can actually cause them to smell more because the soap water can take the natural oils from the ferret's fur so the oils secrete even more trying to replace them.

Occaisional bathing isn't neccessarily a bad thing - maybe once or twice a year, especially if your ferret has gotten very dirty somehow, should be ok but you definitely don't want to do it more than that. If you do choose to bathe your ferrets its best to do it with a ferret friendly shampoo that will be kinder to its natural oils.

As long as you keep your ferrets cage cleaned out regularly and provide fresh bedding you should find that your ferret has less of the musky smell that some strange people find offputting about ferrets!
